[Battle of Perryville]. Braxton Bragg Autograph Note Signed. One page, 7.75" x 4.5", n.p. [Kentucky], October 10, 1862. Written just two days after the Battle of Perryville, near Perryville, Kentucky, Bragg sent this short note, written in pencil which is heavily faded, in full: "General, I send you Capt. Dunbar who has valuable information for you [obscured] regard to the position of the enemy [obscured] will guide you to the locality and give you an opportunity of justice[?] up there." Of note is the presence of a map on the verso, which is also heavily faded and drawn in pencil, depicting the area between Harrodsburg and Louisville. Harrodsburg, 10 miles to the northeast of Perryville, was the rendezvous for Bragg and the other Confederate commanders. Damage to the left edge has obscured some of the text. Moderately toned and foxed. Folds.

The Battle of Perryville, fought for control of the border state of Kentucky, was one of the bloodiest battles of the war. A tactical victory for the South, strategically it is considered a Union victory as the Confederate force retired to Tennessee and left Kentucky in the Union for the remainder of the war.
