    [Battle of Gettysburg]. Union General Lysander Cutler Autograph Letter Signed. One and one-quarter pages, 7.5" x 10", "Head Quarters 2nd Brigade, 1st Div., 1st A[rmy] C[orps], In Field South Mountain," July 7, 1863, to "the Adjt. Genl. of the State of NY." Only four days after the end of the Battle of Gettysburg, General Cutler praises the bravery of four New York brigades under his command, but through his "melancholy satisfaction," he also notes that "there loss is fearfull, more than 60 percent of their numbers." He then lists details of the losses of the 76th New York Infantry regiment. Smoothed folds with some staining.
