    (American Revolution) John Proctor, Pennsylvania militia officer, Autograph Letter Signed "John Proctor", one page with integral address leaf, 6.25" x 8.25", Westmorland County, [Pennsylvania], May 15, 1778 to Pennsylvania President Thomas Wharton, Jr., thanking him, among other things: "...for the good nuse [sic] you gave me of a traty [sic] between France and the United States - Sine my last we had - Ye smart Scrimage [sic] with the Indeons [sic] we had nine men kild [sic] and sum [sic] wounded four of the enemy ware [sic] kil'd and our people ware oblidged [sic] to quit the field being over powered by a superior numbor [sic]..." Proctor adds a short postscript in the left margin: "...A numbor [sic] of torys [sic] had laid a plot to destroy the fort at Pit[t]sburg, but were detected and sum of the Principle [sic] men are tackin [sic] and in confinement..."
