    [American Revolution]. Barnabas Binney Surgeon's Certificate Signed "B Binney". One page, 8" x 11.5", Philadelphia; February 24, 1785. A letter detailing the course of action taken by surgeon Barnabas Binney while attending to Captain William McElhatton. McElhatton, of the 12th Pennsylvania Regiment, was wounded at an engagement at Bonham Town and taken for treatment to the Morristown Army Hospital. Binney served as the Hospital Physician and Surgeon from 1776 until the end of the American Revolution. The letter reads, in full:

    "I hereby certify that being a hospital Surgeon to the american army at Morris Town in Jersey in the Month of July 1777, Among other military patients there fell under my care Capt. William McElhatton of the twelfth Pennsylvania Regiment, who some time before had been wounded in the Engagement with the British at Boman-Town in said State of Jersey. I also certify that the said wound was in his right shoulder, occasioned by a Ball of Buck-shott, was very bad & in my opinion deprived him of the use of his right arm."

    Condition: Usual mail folds, with some creasing and small separations where folds created weakness. Small tears and chipping at edges, else good.
