    Mexican War Occupation Letter: John G. Reynolds Autograph Letter Signed on Mexican Stationery with "Direccion General de Alcabalas" printed at the top. One page, 6" x 8.5", January 22, 1848, "City Mexico", to Captain John B. Grayson, concerning a debt. Toned and fine with usual folds.

    More Information:

    In part: "I send you a promisory [sic] note for the amount you thought you would be able to accommodate me--in the event of anything occurring to me in the meantime, there will be no difficulty as respects the payment of the note." U.S. Army officer John George Reynolds served in the Mexican War and wrote A Conclusive Exculpation of the Marine Corps in Mexico in 1852. John B. Grayson (1806-1861), a graduate of West Point, served as an artillery captain in the Mexican War. When this letter was written to him, Grayson had recently been promoted to lieutenant-colonel. He later served in the Civil War as a Confederate brigadier general until his untimely death in October 1861.
