    Description

Mercury Seven Astronauts: The Astronauts Book Signed by All. The True Story of Man's Greatest Adventure in Outer Space, by Don Myrus (New York: Rutledge Books, 1961), first edition, hardback with pictorial covers, ninety-two pages, 8.75" x 11.25". Neatly signed on the half-title page by all seven, on separate lines: "Alan B Shepard Jr", "Donald K. Slayton", "Walter M Schirra Jr", "John H. Glenn, Jr.", "M. Scott Carpenter", "Virgil I. Grissom", and "Leroy G Cooper Jr". Note the early and more formal versions of their signatures. In the back of the book, there are single page biographies of each astronaut with their photos, Glenn has signed his: "Best regards--/ John H. Glenn, Jr." The original owner of the book's name is written on the back of the free front endpaper: "Rev. Rose/ Community Church/ Cocoa Beach, Fla". His position in this church in the early 1960s has been confirmed. Book has some surface flaws on the cover and general wear; the signatures are excellent, as nice as you'll find.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
