    Martin Van Buren Autograph Letter Signed. One page of a bifolium, 6.75" x 8.5", Lindenwald [New York]; August 28, 1855. A letter of introduction for his neighbor, a Mr. Bronk, to a Mr. Vesey, who worked at the American Consul in Havre, France. It reads in full: "My young neighbor Mr. G. E. Bronk proposes to travel in Europe, & to land at Havre. I take great pleasure in commanding him, at the start, to your safe advice, & kind attentions, well knowing what they write. With a hourly recollection of your kindness." Signed, "M. Van Buren."

    Condition: Ink smudge to last two letters of signature. Two areas of ink smudging in text that does not affect legibility. Minute foxing. Smoothed folds.
