    Martin Luther King Jr. Inscribed and Signed Copy of What Manner of Man. Chicago: Johnson Publishing Company, Inc., 1964. Dr. King has inscribed on the front free endpaper, in blue ink, "To Officer Harry Scott / With best wishes and great appreciation for your support. / [signed] Martin Luther King Jr." First edition. 8vo, 227 pages. Illustrated with photographs throughout. Publisher's cloth binding with stamped decoration on the front cover and stamped titles on the spine.

    Author and social historian, Lerone Bennett Jr. (1928- ), published his biography of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., What Manner of Man, in 1964. Bennett had been a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, with Dr. King. Following his graduation, he worked for a time as a journalist at the Atlanta Daily World and as editor of JET magazine and executive editor of Ebony Magazine.

    Condition: Upper margins of the front and rear covers are foxed; spine is discolored at the head and foot. Rear endpapers are also foxed. Pages are toned throughout, mostly in the upper margin and along the gutter.
