DescriptionLyndon B. Johnson Autograph Letter Signed with Initials as President. One page, 4" x 7.75"; December 28, 1964. A letter of introduction to Kitty Clyde Leonard and A.W. In full: "(Mrs.) Kitty Clyde Leonard & A.W.- This is good man and my friend. Talk to him if you can possibly find the time freely and fully - Thanks so much LBJ / Monday 12/28/64."
Johnson is likely at his ranch in Texas, and "A.W." is likely A.W. Moursand, an old friend and neighbor. Kitty Clyde Leonard had been Johnson's sweetheart in high school, and they remained friends throughout their lives. In fact, Johnson had delivered the 1963 commencement address at the Johnson City High School as a favor to Kitty Clyde, who was then superintendent.
Handwritten letters as president by Johnson are very scarce; making one with such an intimate association particularly desirable.
Condition: A small tear at top runs through the "d" in Clyde. Previous collector's notations in pencil along top edge and mounting remnants on verso. Together with a Pach Bros. black and white photo of Johnson.
