    Description

Lyndon B. Johnson Archive. A small group of twenty-three letters, dating from 1963 to 1994, from Johnson, Lady Bird, and Lynda Bird to John and Elaine Steinbeck. The correspondences mainly concern invitations to the White House, short thank you notes, and general life updates between the two couples. The majority of letters were written while Lyndon B. Johnson was serving as president, following the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

There are eleven typed letters from LBJ, most with secretarial signatures. Accompanied by ten typed letters signed from Lady Bird Johnson, two letters [April 12, 1968 and May 2, 1972] with handwritten annotations. There is also one autograph letter signed, undated, from Lady Bird to Elaine and John. There is one typed letter signed from Lynda Bird Johnson. And finally, there is a telegraph, dated July 1, 1964, from Johnston to Steinbeck, disclosing his intention to award Steinbeck with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Condition: Flattened mail folds, with minor toning to all. Overall very good.
