    Description

Lyman Hall Georgia Legal Document Signed "L Hall" as governor of Georgia. Two pages, 8.75" x 10.5", Savannah, March 11, 1783. Lyman Hall (1724-1790), a clergyman and signer of the Declaration of Independence, had fled north with his family in 1779 following their burning of the town of Sunbury by British troops. He returned to Georgia in 1782 and was elected governor of the state in January, 1783.

Hall has signed the verso of a Richard Wylly promissory note to the State of Georgia promising to pay the "...just Sum of Four thousand Six hundred and twenty Pounds Specie to be paid to...John Martin [governor of Georgia before Hall] or to his Successors in Office..." The note signed by Hall appears at the upper edge of the verso and reads, in part: "Received of Richard Willy Esq within mentioned ten Certificates amounting to four hundred and thirty one pounds 3/8 money within mentioned..."

Smoothed folds are weakened resulting in very small holes that do not affect the text. Water stain along the top and left edge. Overall toning with light bleed through.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
