    Louis Jacques Daguerre Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 5.25" x 8"; May 16, no year. A letter to "My dear M[onsieur] Courtin". The verso of the letter reads: "Monsieur Courtin [illegible] principal de L'Académie royale de Musique." Written in French, the letter is not translated, but is accompanied by a transcript of the letter. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.

    Condition: Bold ink on gently toned paper. The left margin is uneven, where the integral page was torn away. Light soiling and staining on verso. Included are two old newspaper clippings about Daguerre and his accidental discovery that led to the discovery of the daguerreotype, and a slip of paper that states the letter was from the Philip Sang collection.
