A Hemingway ALS Written from a French Steamship on Halloween Day, 1959

Ernest Hemingway. Autograph Letter Signed "Ernest." One page, 8.25 x 10.5 inches, aboard the SS Liberté, October 31, 1959, to "Negro" [Nathan "Bill" Davis], on French Air Mail stationery.

Here, Hemingway writes to his friend, Nathan Davis, addressing Davis as "Negro." Hemingway mentions that he has been ill with "grippe with fever" but that he "walked around the deck some after lunch today and it seems better." He also apologizes for "dull" writing in his letters and that lately his head has felt "stuffed and stupid." He later promises to "ride everything out like always and we'll all get together and I'll write wonderfully or better if I can." He closes the letter with "Merde Ernest."

One vertical and three horizontal mailing folds. One corner with a tiny crease. Very fine condition.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
