    Description

    Levi Woodbury 1834 Printed Circular Signed as Secretary of the Treasury. One page, printed, 7" x 10", [Washington], November 5, 1834. Levi Woodbury signs a printed circular directed "To the Collectors of the Customs and all Receivers of Public Money". It reads, in part: "Hence, in conformity to the requirements of the aforesaid acts and joint resolution of Congress, all Collectors of the Customs, and all Receivers of Public Money, are hereby enjoined, that, after the 1st day of January next, they shall not receive in payment of duties or of public lands, any coin or paper except such as is described in said resolution, viz.: 'the legal currency of the United States, or Treasury notes, or notes of the Bank of the United States, or notes of Banks which are payable and paid on demand in the said legal currency of the United States.'" Slight toning to the edges and one small area of loss at the lower left corner which doesn't affect the text, otherwise in fine condition.
