    Lawrence S. Ross Militia Appointment Signed as governor and countersigned by William King as adjutant-general. One partially-printed page, 17" x 14", Austin, March 21, 1890, appointing F. L. Ingraham "Second Lieutenant in Stone Fort Rifles." Lightly toned with folds and in fine condition.

    Lawrence Ross (1838-1898) served as Texas' nineteenth governor. William H. King (1839-1910) led the 18th Texas Infantry in the Red River Campaign of 1863 and 1864. He served as the adjutant general of Texas from 1881 through 1891. The Stone Fort Rifles were a militia from Nacogdoches which later fought in the Spanish-American War.
