Klondike Dance Hall Girl Cad Wilson Inscribed Photo. This circa 1899 mounted photo (5.5" x 7.75" on a 7" x 9" mount) depicts the popular entertainer Cad Wilson, a favorite with miners. She appears to be wearing a necklace with a pendant made of gold nuggets. The back of the photo is inscribed: "To My Old Friend John 'Who never eats.' Sincerely Yours, Cad Wilson. 'Such a nice girl I. M.'" Wilson was a flamboyant redhead who manipulated her many admirers into showering her with gifts. On one Fourth of July, a group of miners called the Eldorado Kings presented her with a custom belt studded with the largest gold nuggets they had uncovered over a period of time. "She danced on the stage and she sang real pretty, but she took her time making up her mind, and she played one man against the other to get them showing off", recalled Mont Hawthorne, a young prospector from Astoria. Wilson may have been the inspiration for Mae West and the film Klondike Annie.
