Ferdinand and Isabella decree signed in 1492

King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I Document Signed in the Year 1492. One page, 8" x 7" (sight), Zaragoza, October 15, 1492. Manuscript document commanding Don Juan de Ribeiro to the town of San Sebastian to carry out their Royal orders in establishing peace and order in the town. Signed "Yo el Rey" (the King) and "Yo la Reyna" (the Queen).

Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, known as the Catholic kings, ruled Castile and Aragon jointly. Their marriage in 1469 unified Christian Spain which laid the foundation for Spain's future greatness. Under their rule, Christian Spain launched the Inquisition in 1478 and issued the Alhambra Decree of 1492, forcing Jews convert to Catholicism or submit to expulsion. That same year they sponsored Christopher Columbus's voyage, which led to the creation of the overseas Spanish colonial empire, bringing great wealth and power to Spain. This rare document is signed and dated 1492, the year Columbus launched his voyage to the New World.

Matted and framed with a translation and images of the King and Queen. [Note: Translation provided incorrectly lists the month of the document as September.]

Condition: The document has not been examined out of the frame, but appears to be sealed in Mylar, protecting it from any adhesives used in matting. The paper is gently toned, with bold ink.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
