    Description

"...the great war enhanced human consciousness but not human justice"

Kahlil Gibran Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages, 5.5" x 8" (sight), New York, December 17, 1919. In this handwritten letter, the poet and artist Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) communicates information about a studio apartment that he had wished to rent and his thoughts on the recent war: "I was told just now that the Weirs have decided to keep the studio and that their daughter, also a painter, is to occupy it. I wish I could tell you how sorry I am about it... I know that you have much to say about Washington... I, too, have a great deal to tell you about the Near East. One thing I am certain of is this: the great war enhanced human consciousness but not human justice." Signed "Kahlil" on the verso. The letterhead is imprinted with, "51 West Tenth Street", the address from which Gibran's best-seller The Prophet was penned. Matted together with a photograph of the artist and a plaque to an overall size of 22" x 21.75". Letter with usual letter folds and some toning.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
