    Description

Josie Earp: A Significant Letter from Wyatt's Widow to their Longtime Friend John Flood. Written April 19, 1929, not long after Wyatt's passing. Josie refers to her grieving: "I am very lonesome without my husband. I just cannot think that he is gone." She also writes, "Mr. Lake is in Arizona. I had a letter from him several day s ago and he said he was going to Tombstone and would be away at least ten days. I expect to hear from him on his return to San Diego. Will tell you all when I see you." This reference is to Stuart Lake, whose biography Wyatt Earp Frontier Marshal, published after Earp's death, would bring his exploits to popular attention. Doubtless Lake's trip to Tombstone was part of his research for that classic book.

The letter is in excellent condition, on 4.5" x 5.125" notepaper. Included is the original mailing envelope addressed to Flood with Mrs. W. Earp in her hand in the return address. The envelope has light soiling, otherwise excellent.
