    Description

    Josiah Bartlett Letter Signed. One page, 7.5" x 10.25", Exeter, New Hampshire, March 9, 1781, to General Moses Nicholls. A war-dated letter, signed by Bartlett, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, from the Committee of Safety urging Nicholls to rally his troops.

    In full: "Sir, We wrote you on the 9th ult. that application had been made to Col. Hunt to furnish the necessary Supplies for the Recruits now raising in the Western District - Since which by a Letter from said Hunt, we find he declines the Service. Therefore, agreeably to our first directions, we request you to undertake the business of supplying the Troops to be mustered at Amherst, & that you call on Francis Blood, Esq. for supplies accordingly. Josiah Bartlett, Chairman"

    Includes a portrait of Bartlett from a previous mounting, and a dedication program from July 4, 1958.

    Condition: Exhibits mat burning, heavily toned, with scattered foxing, smoothed folds, and evidence of a previous mounting on the verso.
