John Tyler Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages, 5" x 7.75", "Sherwood Forest [Virginia]," March 8, 1859, regarding the grammar school at his alma mater, William and Mary College. Tyler had attended a preparatory branch of William and Mary at the age of twelve as well as the college itself as an adult. In full:

"Mr. Joyner submitted to my perusal the enclosed with a request that after reading I should forward to you. I have read it with pleasure and in the main am ready to adopt its suggestions. I have always believed in the importance of a grammar school, having witnessed upon more occasions that one, its value to the College. The only doubt on my mind is whether we should want under such arrangement more than one professor. I would deeply regret the withdrawal of Mr. Joyner, but I am not prepared to advise. If we are to lose him I can only express my regret. He is a young man of rare talents and I shall be willing to second him in all his efforts to advance the College, but I am incapacitated by my position in connexion [sic] with the College from giving him advice - reflection brings me to this conclusion."

At the writing of this letter, Tyler was serving as both rector and chancellor at the school, positions he would hold until his death in 1862. Uneven edges with one spot of staining at the upper edge. Light toning along the vertical fold on the recto.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
