"[I]t might be just as well if this correspondence did not fall into alien or unfriendly hands"

John Steinbeck Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8.5" x 9" (sight), New York, April 27, 1963, on Steinbeck's personal stationery. One year after winning the Nobel Prize in Literature, Steinbeck writes this playful letter to Lew Rosen of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey, likely thanking him for tickets to the circus. The text and signature are bold and clear. Included is the original transmittal envelope with postmark (no stamp). The letter and envelope are matted and framed to an overall size of 13.5" x 17". The letter bears some stains in the right margin and folds. In full:

"For reasons which will be apparent to you, it might be just as well if this correspondence did not fall into alien or unfriendly hands. I have your letter with its enclosure of tail hair (you see, we're in trouble already) and I am deeply grateful to you to Mr. North and to the elephant. My presumptive daughter in law will be equally grateful. Such are the hazards of marriage in these days that a little magic is no bad ingredient. Thank you again yours [signed] John Steinbeck."

Two years before writing this letter, Steinbeck had published his final novel, The Winter of Our Discontent.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
