John Rutledge War-date Manuscript Document Signed "J. Rutledge" as Governor of South Carolina. One page, 12.25" x 14.75", Charleston, November 2, 1779. A rare and unusual official document concerning John Christianson who was "...Appointed and Commissioned by Me to be Engineer of the State with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and that he was promoted on the 14th day of April last of the Rank of Colonel...and that I have on this Day Accepted His Resignation at his own Request he being desirous of Returning to Europe..." Weak folds reinforced on verso, light toning, a few minor pinholes at fold intersections, else mostly clean and bright, fine condition. Despite faults, a significant and rare piece of Americana.
