    John Q. Adams Autograph Letter Signed "John Quincy Adams". One page, 7.75" x 9.75" (sight), Washington, D.C.; February 22, 1845. The former president sends his regrets that he cannot attend the Inauguration Ball for James K. Polk. It reads:

    "Samuel Humes Porter, R. N. Dick, James Buchanan, Solomon Hillen, William D. Bowie, Charles T. Frailey, George Parker, James Hoban, John Tyler jun., James G. Bennet, A. A. Nicholson, and William. B. Scott. Esquires. Committee of invitation to the Inauguration Ball.

    Gentlemen. I tender to you my grateful acknowledgement for the honour you have done me by your invitation to the Inauguration Ball, which would be cheerfully accepted but for indisposition. I am, with great respect, Gentlemen, your very obedient servant and fellow citizen."

    The letter, written in Adams' own hand, is framed along with small plaques and portraits of John Quincy Adams, James Buchanan, and James K. Polk to the overall size of 25" x 27.75".

    Condition: Flattened mail folds, with some slight soiling and toning at folds. There is a small tear at the top fold. Else very good.
