    Description

    John Jay Signed Appointment. Single partly printed sheet, 11.75" x 7.75". City of Albany; April 5, 1799. Governor John appoints "Caleb Hyde of our County of Tioga" commissioner of taxes. Boldly signed "John Jay" at bottom. Matted alongside an engraving of Jay in his judge's robes and framed to an overall size of 24" x 13.25".

    Condition: Flattened folds, with uneven toning and bold ink. Three small puncture holes along bottom where a ribbon was previously laced. Black paint of frame has heavy chipping.
