    Description

John Hunt Morgan Document Signed. One page, 6.75" x 9.75", November 12, 1862. Placed on a special requisition for eleven horses and two mules for Capt. White's Battery, then in Knoxville, Tennessee, Confederate General John Morgan writes his approval. Docketed on the verso. Morgan's signature, which in itself is rather uncommon, is bold. Heavily foxed in the right half of the page. Small .5" tear at the lower edge. Several small strips of clear tape on the verso, likely remnants from previous mounting.

One of the more illustrious (or notorious, depending on one's allegiance) Confederate military figures, John Hunt Morgan (1825-1864) organized three companies of cavalry that raided extensively in Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana before his capture in 1863. He was killed in his sleep in 1864 in Tennessee.
