    John Hancock Military Appointment Signed as Governor of Massachusetts. One page, 14" x 12"; no place, circa 1787. Document appoints Ephraim Lane, Jr., to the rank of "Captain of a company of artillery raised in the Town of Norton, in the Bristol Brigade, & in the fifth Division of the Militia of this Commonwealth comprehending the Counties of Plymouth, Bristol, Barnstable, Dukes, & Nantucket." Countersigned by John Avery as Secretary.

    Condition: Document has been backed with linen, leaving the docket on verso exposed. With separations at folds repaired with linen backing. Tiny tears at all margins and stray staining. Dampstaining to linen backing. Docketed on verso by David Cobb.
