John F. Kennedy: Signed As We Remember Joe. (Cambridge, Massachusetts, University Press, privately printed, 1945). This rare, and highly sought-after, first edition was limited to a run of 250 copies. It was edited by John F. Kennedy, a decorated war hero of the Pacific theater, and issued as a loving tribute to his eldest brother Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Joe left Harvard Law School to join the Navy and served as a bomber pilot in World War II. He died in 1944 when his plane, loaded with explosives for an attack on a German V-2 rocket site, exploded shortly after takeoff. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross and the Air Medal for heroism, both of which are pictured in the book. Joe was being groomed by his father as a future president. Following his tragic, and perhaps unnecessary death, the mantle of leadership fell upon young Jack. Later re-issued, this is the first printing, characterized by the red navy wings "marker" on the title page. It is signed "John F. Kennedy" on the half-title page (likely done as President) and was obtained from the estate of Floyd M. Boring, the well-liked secret service agent who helped foil the Truman assassination attempt at Blair House and participated in the planning of JFK's ill-fated Dallas trip. It is in fantastic condition, retaining the original glassine wrappers and cardboard presentation box, signed "Floyd M. Boring" on the lid. Seldom offered, this constitutes a "Holy Grail" for Kennedy collectors. The condition and provenance combine to make this a special opportunity.
