John F. Kennedy Holograph Notes Regarding Russia and the European Situation, Circa 1953-1956. One page of blue-lined paper, 4.5" x 7", in ink, fine condition.

This is an extraordinary and intimate look into JFK's involvement in the crucial Iron Curtain politics of the 1950s. Presumably JFK penned these notes following conversations he had with President Eisenhower and Lord Brand (Director of Lloyd's Bank), noting their positions on key European issues. The notes read, in full: "X told me that if we pulled out Germany would go Communist right away. Lord Brand feels that R will be reluctant to move iron curtain to Atlantic Says feeding Europe would be a tremendous problem if they took it. Feels that we must fight where it is possible & not all over the globe. Does not like MacArthur. Feels oil of Middle East vital." The presumption is that "X" stands for Eisenhower, and "R" for Russia. Many of the issues Kennedy notes on the page remain relevant nearly sixty years later. These historic notes would be an important addition to an advanced Kennedy collection.
