John F. Kennedy: As a 1960 Presidential Candidate, He Writes Notes for a Major Policy Speech on the Middle East to the Zionist of American Convention Stunning holographic JFK notes for his speech to Zionist of America: " I propose that an international effort be made to limit an arms race in the Middle East"...(yet allow) " rights of self defense..."

Thirty-fifth President (1961-1963). While in the navy during World War II, Kennedy's PT boat was sunk and he earned a Purple Heart. He served as Congressman and Senator from Massachusetts, and his book "Profiles in Courage" won a Pulitzer Prize. Narrowly defeating Nixon in 1960, he faced problems like the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the growing civil rights movement, and the building of the Berlin Wall. he was assassinated in Dallas by Lee Harvey Oswald.

The notes, written on stationery of the Statler Hilton Hotel in New York, read in full: " I propose that an international effort be made to limit an arms race in the Middle East, with the realization that if this is not accomplished that we shall permit an imbalance to exist which denies to any country the rights of self defense"

This lot is accompanied by a letter from Dave Powers, Curator of the Kennedy Library, confirming the authenticity and historical context of these notes. An important early formulation of Kennedy's views on the Middle East and Israel's right to self-preservation.Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
