    John B. Magruder Military Clothing Receipt Signed. One and one-half pages, 8" x 10", August 31, 1838, n.p. This "Receipt of Clothing Camp and Garrison Equipage" contains an interesting list of over forty items such as camp kettles, blankets, flannel drawers, and drum snares. Signed by Magruder on page two as "1st Lieut." Lightly age-toned with bold writing. Some small tears have begun at the folds; fine.

    More Information:

    The heading of the lined document reads, "Received of Major A. Mackay M. T. the 31st August 1838, the following Articles of Clothing Camp & Garrison Equipage." John Magruder (1807-1871), a graduate of West Point, served in the army of three nations: the U.S., the Confederacy, and the Imperial Mexican Army. A hero of the Mexican War, Magruder joined the Confederate cause and served as commander of the District of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Following the Civil War, he fled to Mexico and served under Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico.
