    Description

Jefferson Davis signed West Point appointment

Jefferson Davis Signed West Point Cadet Appointment as Secretary of War. Four pages, 7.75"x 9.75", Washington DC, March 25, 1856. Printed on blue Department of War letterhead, this notice informs the recipient, one "Charles Henry Gibson of Pennsylvania," that he has been appointed "a Cadet in the service of the United States." The letter informs Gibson where and when to report, and the terms of his service. Five years after signing this notice of military appointment, Davis would resign his office as Secretary of War to become the President of the Confederate States of America. Gibson did well in his military career, eventually serving as acting aide-de-camp to Major General McClellan during the Peninsula Campaign. Occasional foxing; professional strengthening to folds.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
