After the Civil War, former Confederate President Jefferson Davis was imprisoned for treason for two years. After his release, he and his family went to Canada and from there sailed to the United Kingdom on July 25, 1868. In January 1869, the Davis family moved to London, where Jefferson looked for work as well as a way to return to the United States (Andrew Johnson granted him a pardon on December 25, 1868). Davis ultimately did return to the U.S., becoming the president of the Carolina Life Insurance Company. Francis R. Lubbock served as Governor of Texas from November 1861 to November 1863. All proceeds to benefit educational programs at The Bryan Museum.
