Jawaharlal Nehru Typed Letter Signed. Two pages, 8.5" x 11", New Delhi, June 6, 1957. A letter to Norman Cousins expressing concerns about growing the nuclear threat and its impact on the world. Nehru references a 1957 speech made by Albert Schweitzer over the radio, which warned the world of the impending dangers of nuclear testing and the resulting fall-out. In part:

"I agree with you that there is now a far greater realisation [sic] all over the world of the effect of these test explosions than there was previously. I am sure that Schweitzer's statement has helped in this process...I do not know what to suggest as to the next step. Clearly, the pressure must come from awakened and, where possible, organised [sic] public opinion. This has been aroused, but there is always the danger of its relapse in quiescence. We should take advantage of all legitimate methods of keeping the public informed. Unfortunately, the so called Peace Conferences and Congresses, usually organised [sic] by Communists or their friends, do more harm than good in this respect. They have patently political objectives in view and they irritate many people outside their fold. Fortunately, others are now also playing an important part in this vital question."

Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India, with India gaining its independence from Great Britain in 1947. During the Cold War, Nehru adopted a policy of non-alignment, despite pressure from both the Soviet Union and United States to become allies. Nehru believed in taking the route of pacifism and threw his support behind the United Nations. Ex. Norman Cousins Estate.

Condition: Toned along top and bottom edges with usual mail folds. Small holes at top left corner due to pages being stapled together.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
