James W. Robinson County of Bexar Order. Partly printed document, one page with multiple dockets on verso, 7.75" x 10"; San Antonio; November 1, 1839. Robinson signs a document ordering sheriff Joseph L. Hood to take Gil Rodrigues into custody to answer to the charge of grand larceny. Robinson signs as District Judge.

Judge, attorney, and San Jacinto veteran, Robinson arrived in Texas at the beginning of 1833 with a letter of recommendation addressed to Stephen F. Austin. He served as a delegate from Nacogdoches to the 1835 Consultation and was elected lieutenant governor of the provisional government of Texas. Later in 1842, he was captured during Woll's invasion of Texas and taken to Mexico. He returned to Texas with terms from Santa Anna to negotiate a brief armistice. From the Robert E. Davis Collection.

Condition: Uneven toning, with some wear to folds resulting in tiny bits of paper loss. Ink is smudged in some areas, and scattered foxing. Robinson's signature remains clean and bold.
