    Description

    James Monroe Citizenship Document Signed "Jas Monroe" as U.S. Secretary of State. One partially-printed page, 7.5" x 9.5", "City of Washington", May 2, 1816. This document certifies that "Vincent Gray is now and was at the time of giving the certificate on the Twentieth page of the annexed writings [not included with this document] a citizen of the United States residing at the Havannah, well known to this Department that the said Certificate is signed in the proper hand writing of the said Vincent Gray and that this Departments respects . . . the signature of the said Vincent Gray." The wax seal of the Secretary of State rests in the lower left corner. Folds with minor wrinkles; paper clip dimple along top left edge. Near fine condition.
