    James K. Polk Document Signed as President. Single vellum sheet, 16.5" x 12.75"; City of Washington; March 24, 1846. A document appointing Peter G. Washington "Auditor of the Treasury for the Post Office Department." Countersigned by James Buchanan as Secretary of State. With blind embossed presidential seal.

    Condition: Usual folds, and boasting wide margins. Slight toning at edges, otherwise very clean with bold signatures. Verso has mounting residue along edges and pencil identification of signers.
