    Description

    James K. Polk and James Buchanan Document Signed. One page, 8" x 10", Washington, September 18, 1845. Partly printed document stating "...that the paper hereunto annexed, signed by Benjamin Fitzpatrick as Governor of the State of Alabama is under the Great Seal of the said State of Alabama..." Signed by Polk as President and countersigned by James Buchanan as Secretary of State, with red wax embossed seal and large green paper seal. The referenced document signed by Fitzpatrick is no longer present.

    The Polk and Buchanan signed document is accompanied by a document signed by Edward Hall certifying its authenticity. One page, 7.5" x 9", New Orleans, October 15, 1845. Hall, acting as agent for the Republic of Texas, certifies "that James K Polk is now, and was in the eighteenth day of September last (1845) President of the Unites States of America that his signature to the annexed certificate is genuine and that as such all his official acts are entitled to full faith and confidence." With a blind embossed stamp for the Consulate of the Republic of Texas.

    Condition: .75" closed tear and two .25" closed tear to right margin's horizontal folds of the Polk and Buchanan document. Some bleed through of adhesive residue from green seal to verso. Both documents are toned with smoothed folds.
