    James Fannin: 1835 Document Signed [DS]. James Walker Fannin, Jr. (1804-1836). Leader in the Texas War for Independence, commanded the ill-fated group of Georgia and Texas volunteers massacred at the Battle of Goliad. 6" x 7" manuscript, Copano, Texas, February 3, 1835, a treasury warrant for $470 payable to Captain John Appleton for "freight & transportation of troops from Quintana to Copano, signed "J. W. Fannin Jr" as agent for the Provisional Government. Directed to the "Treasurer of the Provl. Govt of Texas, San Felipe". A note on the verso signed "A. Brigham" certifies that John Appleton is also known as "John Appleman" and was master of a schooner that traveled between the ports of Velarco and Quintana. .75" tear at top (caused by ink burn), trimmed along left side with some loss of text.
