Jacqueline Kennedy Typed Letter Signed. One page on White House letterhead, 5.25" x 7.5", January 11, 1963. A thank you letter addressed to Norman Cousins: "The President and I were truly moved to see the superb icon which you brought to us from His Holiness Pope John XXIII. It was such an incredibly thoughtful gesture on the part of that brave and busy man..."

Cousins had made Rome his first stop in early December 1962, but Pope John was unable to meet with him personally due to illness. Cousins returned to the Vatican after his meetings with Khrushchev, and this time was granted an audience. During their visit, Pope John presented Cousins with a medallion, as well as ninth century silver icon for the Kennedys. Boldly signed in blue ink.

The lot includes a retained carbon copy of the handwritten letter Cousins sent to the Kennedys with the icon. Ex. Norman Cousins Estate.

Condition: Light toning along edges, usual mail fold, else good condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
