Jacqueline Kennedy Typed Letter Signed with Postscript. One page, 6.25" x 9.5", Washington, D.C.; May 8, 1963. Signed "Jacqueline Kennedy." The First Lady writes to John Steinbeck to thank him for sending a copy of The Red Pony with a personal dedication for her children. At the lower margin and on verso she wrote the following postscript in blue ink: "Do you know that when I read the Red Pony at an impressionable age - I refused to let my family breed our beautiful thoroughbred mare - then mine - because of poor Nellie? That was when the mare was 11 - and I didn't relent until she was 19 - and by then it was too late! I can't think at too many authors whose works have had such a violent 8 year impact - Thank you again." At the upper right corner has been written in pencil "VIP" in an unknown hand.

Steinbeck's The Red Pony was published in 1937 and told the stories of a young boy, Jody, and his life on a California ranch.

Condition: Flattened mail folds, with minor edge toning. Very fine.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
