    Jacqueline Kennedy Autograph Letter Signed "Jackie" with related materials. Two pages, 6.5" x 8.5", Washington, n. d. [circa February 8, 1960], to Barbara Scannell, secretary to Jackie's father-in-law, Joseph Kennedy. Here, the future first lady is asking her to place an order for cutlery. She writes, in full:

    "Could you find out where the Kennedys got their bamboo knives & forks etc that they use everyday. (at the Mart) And could you order me 6 place settings - knife, fork, spoon, soup spoon, butter knife & have them sent & billed to me here [?]" She adds a postscript at the bottom: "Will you make sure the [Franz] Bueb painting of Chatsworth which Mrs K had sent from our house at the Cape to Palm Beach is brought back to us when Dave drives up next spring!!! Thanks for your sweet letter about the blouse. You deserve a carload of them."

    Very light stain at upper edge in center and smoothed folds, else fine. With original transmittal envelope. Jackie wrote this letter just one month after her husband, Massachusetts Senator John F. Kennedy, made his announcement to run for the presidency in the 1960 election.

    Also included: Joseph P. Kennedy Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10.5", France, August 26, 1959, to Barbara Scannell regarding an award being offered to "...Mrs. Kennedy from the Trinity College Alumnae of New York on October 24..." With original transmittal envelope. [and:] Autograph List. One page, 8" x 13", n. p., n. d. [circa December, 1959]. Recording the occurrences of December 15 and 16. On the 16th is recorded: "To day at approximately 11 a. m. the Senator [John F. Kennedy] dictate a declaration of his candidacy for the president of the United States. The final draft was sent air mail special delivery to Ted Sorensen this afternoon at 4 p.m." Sorensen was JFK's close advisor and speech writer. [and:] Spiral Notebook containing information on the "help" at the Kennedy's Palm Beach, Florida home including names of employees, occupation (i. e., chef, laundress, etc.), rate of pay, and date of employment for the years 1957 through 1958. Also contains subscription information, annual expenses, and addresses.
