Vance's The Face is a 1979 novel published by DAW. The novel is the fourth in Vance's Demon Princes series, and was long-awaited upon its publication, following twelve years after the third volume in the series, The Palace of Love. The manuscript presented here is a fascinating peek inside the creative process, with Vance's corrections, re-writing, and textual insertions evident on nearly every page. Interesting to note that this holograph manuscript was written on just about any piece of paper Vance could find: his son's homework and class schedules, a photocopy of a map of Australia, assorted pamphlets and photocopies of articles, and regular ruled notebook paper. Auspicious beginnings for a manuscript from a major author in the field. All pages are in fine or better condition, considering that most of the paper used to write the manuscript was used previously for different purposes. A truly unique literary manuscript. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
