    Description

    Isaac I. Stevens Collection. This lot contains seven items signed by Isaac I. Stevens. Stevens was the first governor of Washington Territory and a general in the Union Army. He was a staunch supporter of Franklin Pierce, a position which helped him gain his position as governor. Stevens was killed in action during the Civil War, charging forward with his troops at the Battle of Chantilly. The inventory of the lot is as follows:

    Autograph Letter Signed "I.I. Stevens." One page, 7.8" x 10", Washington, April 11, 1851. The content is routine.
    Autograph Letter Signed "I.I. Stevens." One page, 4.6" x 7.2", Washington, April 19, 1851. The content of this letter is routine.
    Autograph Letter Signed "I.I. Stevens." One page. 7.5" x 10", Washington, April 12, 1851. The content is regarding the Office Coast Survey, involving various plates of the tides of Cat Island and Boston Harbor.
    Autograph Letter Signed "I.I. Stevens." One page, 5" x 7.75", Washington, April 19, 1851. The content is routine.
    Autograph Letter Signed "Isaac I. Stevens." One page, 7.5" x 10", Boston, Massachusetts, October 11, 1852. The letter is written to Prof. James Henry, in which Stevens endorses Lt. Montgomery Hunt in his pursuit to be appointed the Inspector of the New York Light House District.
    Clipped Signature, signed "Isaac I. Stevens." This 2.5" x 1" slip of paper was once a part of a free franked envelope. The word "free" is still visible above Stevens' signature.

    The items in this collection are in fine condition on average; the signature is slightly yellowing; otherwise excellent! From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
