Thomas Edison Typed Letter Signed with handwritten note forwarding said letter to his son, Charles, signed with initials. Two pages on his laboratory letterhead, 8.5" x 11"; Orange, N.J.; undated, but likely circa 1920. A form letter to his record salesmen sending recommendations on sales techniques citing the skills of a "record girl who has developed from a mere clerk into a saleswoman." He writes, in part: "If all dealers conducted their Record business like this girl does, it would almost double record sale... the purchaser... could be sold another or perhaps two more records if the clerk was taught to be a salesman. For instance, if the clerk noticed the type of record asked for and was familiar with the records in the catalogue, he or she could suggest two or three other records... By taking the name and address she could use the telephone when she came across other similar records in the catalogue, by referring to the address book, or when a new record arrived..." Edison signs the letter, "Thos A Edison."

Edison writes a note at the top of the letter to his son, Charles, who was then running Edison Records: "Charles I am sending this out separately to each jobbers traveller TAE." An additional note, possibly in Charles Edison's hand, at top right reads: "Please return to Meadowbrooks."

Condition: Written on two sheets, there are small staple holes in the top right corner of both pages. where the corners are bit creased. Age toning, with slight smudging to both penciled notes.
