Samuel F.B. Morse Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 4.5" x 7.5", New York, March 16, 1860, to John Skirving of Germantown, Pennsylvania. Samuel Finley Breese Morse (1791-1872), best known as the creator of a single-wire telegraph system and co-inventor of the Morse Code, was also an American portrait painter. In this letter, he writes to architect and fellow artist John Skirving concerning an ambrotype: "I have had ambrotype portraits of myself taken in the attitude indicated in yours of Feb. 27. There are two, one containing the full length in the attitude, and the other the Head in the same attitude but about 3 inches in length. They are on glass, 7 x 9 inches. How shall I set them to you?" On toned paper with some foxing. Boldly signed.
