Orville Wright Autograph Note Signed on a Christmas Card with envelope. The folded card (5" x 6") is undated; however, the envelope is postmarked December 16, 1947, from Dayton, Ohio, and addressed to John W. Wood of Locust Valley, New York, author of Airports: Some Elements of Design and Future Development (1940). Orville Wright wrote this note - an apology - only forty-two days before his second heart attack (the first had been in October 1947). Three days later, on January 30, 1948, he died. The note reads in full, "I am sorry if my inability to comply with your requests has inconvenienced you. They came at the time of year when I am most pressed for time. [Signed] Sincerely, O. W." "Orville Wright" is printed on page three of the card, below "Season's greetings and best wishes for the New Year." The colorful front of the card reads, "Season's Greetings." Wright's handwritten note is in clear, black ink. Following the death of his brother Wilbur in 1912, Orville carried their legacy alone towards an exciting future. He built an aeronautics laboratory and dedicated himself to developing and inventing aeronautical devices and equipment. He also stayed active in the public eye, promoting aeronautics, and inventing. Fine condition.
