    Lee de Forest Autograph Letter Signed with Typed Letter Signed. Includes:

    Lee de Forest Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8.5" x 11", Los Angeles, California; March 15, 1954. The letter is addressed to a Dr. Frank Groom Kirtz on his personal stationery. It was written for an educational seminar and recounts his experience with Professor Willard Gibbs and a humorous story from a Thomas Edison speech he attended. It reads in part: "...I have pleasant recollections of my visits to Edison's Laboratory. I heard him deliver the shortest address in history to a meeting of Electric Light Engineers in Atlantic City - he advanced to the Speaker's stand and said "Good night," then sat down!"

    Lee de Forest Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8.5" x 11", Los Angeles, California; March 15, 1954. Also addressed to Dr. Frank Groom Kirtz on de Forest's personal stationery. It introduces his exhibition letter and discusses his biography.

    Lee de Forest (1873-1961) was an American inventor, responsible for the Audion vacuum tube which proved to be a critical component in the development of all radio, radar, long-distance telephone, television and computer systems before the transistor's invention. He is considered the "father of radio."

    Condition: Handwritten letter is toned with four small spots of dried adhesive on verso from prior mounting that are visible on recto. Typed letter is minutely rubbed with some light toning along bottom margin.
