Julian Hawthorne Autograph Letter Signed "Julian Hawthorne." One page, 8.5" x 11", New York; May 6, 1910. Written on his personal stationery and addressed to a Mr. Choate, concerning a medical claim for a technique for anesthesia. It reads, in full: "I hope you are of my mind as to doing justice at last to the claim of the late D.W.T.G. Morton to the discovery of etheric anesthesia to surgery. I, at any rate, have read all the witness and testimony on the subject - there is a tremendous quantity of it published & unpublished - and have arrived at the conclusion that the claim is absolutely valid. I don't believe any other man living has been through all that mass of stuff; but whoever has would, I think, agree with me as to the merits of the case. As you are one of the jury, I am anxious to let you know this. With great respect Yours very sincerely."

Dr. William T.G. Morton was an American dentist who first publicly used inhaled ether as an anesthetic during surgery in 1846. Morton made multiple attempts to gain the patent and credit for the discovery of ether and of its uses, but was largely unsuccessful. Julian Hawthorne (1846-1934) was the son of Nathaniel Hawthorne and was a writer like his father. His writing gained popularity in London, but he was less well received when he returned to the United States. Near the end of his life he moved to California and took up writing book reviews.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
