    Albert Einstein Signed and Inscribed Photo Postcard, 3.5" x 5.5". A black and white image of Einstein, to "Herrn [Peter Gabriel] Bergmann" signed "A. Einstein 45". Signed in black fountain pen, on a clay coated surface, the ink is uneven and is affected by a single crease through the inscription.
    Bergmann received his PhD. at the German University in Prague in 1936 and immediately after came to the U.S. to work with Einstein as a research assistant at the institute for Advanced Study. Bergmann published the first textbook on general relativity in 1942 titled Introduction to the Theory of Relativity, with a forward by Einstein. (New York Times, Oct. 23, 2002)
    Accompanied by a copy of The Principle of Relativity, by H.A. Lorentz, A. Einstein, H. Minkowski and H. Weyl. London: Methuen & Co. Ltd. [1923]. 8vo. 216 pages. Red cloth binding, no dust jacket. Two envelopes and a sheet of graph paper containing mathematical formulas are laid in. Previous owner's name on front free end paper.
